About Bo Smolka

bo_headshotBo Smolka has been an award-winning writer and editor for more than 20 years.

He is in his seventh season covering the Baltimore Ravens, first for Comcast SportsNet from 2011-16 and now for Press Box. He is also a member of the Professional Football Writers of America.

Before that, he worked for five years as a sports copy editor at the Baltimore Sun and has also written sports, travel and personal essays for the Sun.

Smolka spent 10 years in the college sports information business, first as an assistant at Navy and then as sports information director at Bucknell, his alma mater.

He received several national writing awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America, and hisĀ  story on gender equity in athletics was named CoSIDA’s national Story of the Year in 1996.

Smolka also has written a dozen children’s sports books and has written for several national publications such as National Geographic World, USA Today.com and Boys Life.

He graduated from Bucknell in 1988 with a degree in math and English and is pursuing a master’s degree in nonfiction writing at Johns Hopkins.

He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife and two children.
